National Rural Development Programme 2011-2013 of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management was adopted at the 17th session of the RS Government in February 2011. It represents the first multi-year document in Serbia, which was formally adopted and includes rural development measures.

In creating this document, in addition to employees of the Ministry of Agriculture officials of other ministries and representatives of associations of agricultural producers, associations, cooperatives, NGOs and international agencies we also included.

National Rural Development Programme 2011-2013 provides measures to support priority sectors: cereals and industrial crops, meat and milk, fruit, vines and vegetables.

Measures should contribute to achieving the following strategic goals:

  1. Promoting sustainable agriculture and food sector through targeted investments to online pokie improve and increase their competitiveness;
  2. Improving standards of food safety, veterinary and phyto-sanitary standards, environmental standards and other standards in line with the acquis communautaire (the EU acquis communautaire);
  3. Sustainable development of rural economy and rural areas and general support to expansion of agricultural activities in rural areas. 

In the design of rural development measures, the ministry has paid a special attention to the female population in applying for funds, but also farmers who are in the areas with difficult conditions - marginal areas. In addition to these categories manufacturers, in a privileged position are those who have less than 40 years, with the main goal to keep young people in rural areas.

All required measures are the support for rural development in accordance with the European model of measures for more efficient use of EU pre-accession funds in the future.
